Introduction

The world's first bricks originated in the Middle East more than two thousand years ago. These bricks were fashioned out of clay and left to bake in the sun. The Romans first introduced both bricks and terra cotta into England and parts of France. Roman bricks looked more like very thick terra cotta tiles. The strength and integrity of these original bricks had many builders reclaiming them and using them five and six hundred years after the Romans.

The popularity of brick grew, and villages and towns throughout Europe had small brickyards making bricks from local clay. They would be made in response to local demand, and as a result odd shapes and sizes would be created for special applications.

Tuscan Courtyard Bricks reflect the very best of old European brick-making techniques. Their character and personality is such that whatever purpose you use them for, they will have an ambiance that is not available in other materials.
